Gartner Usage Policy

External Use (outside your company)

We welcome you, as a Licensed User, to open as much Gartner content as you like for your personal use within your job and within the scope of your Product.

Gartner content cannot be shared (a) outside your company, or (b) via email, internet posting, or other external information storage and retrieval systems.

If your job responsibilities require you to share Gartner content outside of your company, you may:

  • Excerpt, quote or reference content with prior written approval from Gartner Content Compliance, here, and in accordance with the Gartner Content Compliance Policy
  • Purchase a reprint license for external use. Contact the Reprints team for more information.
Best Practices for using Gartner Content

Acceptable Use
Frank (Licensed User) is preparing a presentation for a local business seminar and wants to include quotes from Gartner content in his PowerPoint. Before the presentation, Frank consults the Content Compliance Policy and submits a request to Gartner Content Compliance, here, for approval of his proposed use of the Gartner content. After receiving approval from Gartner, Frank delivers an outstanding presentation.

Unacceptable Use
Dawn (Licensed User) who is responsible for issuing her company's press releases, incorporates Gartner content into a press release without first obtaining written approval from Gartner. This is considered unacceptable use because the Content Compliance Policy requires that all external use of Gartner content receive prior written approval. Dawn should review the Policy and contact Gartner Content Compliance, here, for pre-approval before issuing any press release containing Gartner content.

Acceptable Use
Laura (Licensed User) is the head of Public Relations and recently purchased a reprint license, which grants her distribution rights to a Magic Quadrant in which Gartner placed her company in the Leaders quadrant. Laura wants to share the evaluation with prospects and clients. After obtaining approval from the Gartner Reprints team for the promotional language in her email, Laura may send the email, including the link to the reprint, to her prospects and clients.

Unacceptable Use
Frank (Licensed User) works for a public relations firm and is responsible for researching technology trends on behalf of his clients. When he finds Gartner content of interest, he sends a group email to his clients with the copyrighted PDF version of the content attached. This is considered unacceptable use because Gartner does not permit Licensed Users to share PDF versions of Gartner content. Frank has two options: (i) purchase a reprint license to use the content in its entirety according to the terms, or (ii) select a few key sentences from the Gartner content to share in his group email. If Frank chooses the second option, he should contact Gartner Content Compliance, here, with his draft email containing the selected sentences. Once he receives approval, he may then email the approved quote to his clients.

REMINDER: This is a baseline license that may vary depending on your purchased product.
